Our order of chicks from Cackle Hatchery arrived today. Very happy they arrived alive and active. Started eating and drinking as soon as I got them out of the shipping box. But.... we order 25 straight run Buff Brahams and 15 pullet and 2 cockerl Light Brahams. only received half of the Buff Brahams.... Called and was told to call back Monday to verify the babies are healthy and made it through the weekend, and to figure out getting the rest of the original order.

Is it normal to get a partial order. Could it be that the Buff Brahams' didn't produce enough to fill my order? I really wanted the Buff's, and had planned to make another order for a few other pullets for the fall, but should I swap breeds if they can't fill the order? If we get another order will we be able to mix the chicks or will they need to be kept apart until they are ready for the coop?

On the up side, watching them is better than TV, their cuteness and antics are so funny.

Congrats on the new fuzzy butts. You can mix chicks that are 3 to 4 weeks apart without too much trouble. Idk about the hatchery you ordered from. Hope they can send the rest of your order soon.

No I just think someone screwed up and the order wasn't filled correctly. I would also shoot them an email sometimes its hard to get them on the phone. Check your invoice to see if they charged you for the missing chicks etc. I also got some of my chicks from Cackle and I am extremely happy with my chicks. They are fun to watch. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reminder to email Cackle... I forgot it would be better to put in writing to them about the order.

They go from being hungy and running all over they place to trying to fall alseep, then one jumps up and they get started again. So busy... you can't help but smile watching them..

We are starting down the road with chickens and looking forward to the journey. Praying we have more successes than failures.

Thanks a bunch for your help

We just got our 30 chicks through the mail as well...they are 19 days old now & all are doing GREAT! I think it has a lot to do with some advise that a woman at the local feed store gave us about chick probiotics....we put it in their water every time & we haven't lost one yet! She told us a story of a man who got 100 quail chicks through the mail...expecting only 1/2 to live...he fed them the probiotics and only lost 3-4! Now he's stuck with 90+ quail & only room for 50

We also gave it to our pig the other day when she was sick & throwing up & our cat who wasnt eating enough & now they are all doing great...its wonderful stuff!!!

Its called Probiotic Chick Boost & is made by Equerry's Probiotic Solutions....equerrys.com
I just checked out the website for the first time & WOW they make probiotics for all kinds of animals, I didn't see the Chick Boost on the site but I'm sure if you contact them they can give you info on it...

There are LOTS of probiotics out there I use one that I get from the farm store and it is for every kind of animal I am sure TSC will have it or something similar. I also do not use it unless I seen runny poo etc.
