I have a question about silkies. Can you sex them by their feathers like you can other breeds? I was just wondering, didn't know if pullets feathers grow faster or slower then cockerels or if they are just the kind you have to wait and see. I have some chicks that are getting feathers faster than others and some are taller than others but all are growing very nicely. My white chicks are smaller but their wing feathers are growing faster then my bigger chicks, just confused about my little chicks.

I have silkies - its difficult to sex them, but I have noticed that the young hens do tend to be a bit quieter than the roos. not by much mind you! Any sign of a comb developing early on is also a good indication - mind you having said that, one of my whites had a comb from a young age, but laid her first egg about six weeks ago.

They are only 2 weeks old, so no combs are growing yet. I have 4 that want to eat out of my hands and that are taller than the rest. I have 6 smaller chicks but 1 is larger than the rest but not as tall as the others. I'm thinking 5 of each, not what I really wanted but if it works out that way, so be it. :)
