First 1/2 day of work... all sides and roof finished now.

Tomorrow cutting and hinging all the doors.

Too much fun.

Mine is basically a 4x4x4 for 4 possibly 5 hens. Tomorrow I cut all doors (x 4 I think  coop, nest box, big door into run and med door on side for general access.

Having too much fun.

Still struggling with best method to close coop door, Rhosie, I really like your door. Thanks for photo. Think I might be able to pull that off. Just nylon rope for pull? Is the door weighted or just heavy enough to drop smoothly? Do you "lock" it some how?

Your coop is a good size for four full-sized hens, but not five. Or are you getting bantams? My coop is also small but very well ventilated. In the run that is under my coop I have been using the deep litter method for just over a month and I have no odor issues. Inside the coop I find that it gets messy, perhaps because they get food and water in there, so I remove bedding from the coop every week and put it into the composter.

Deep litter should be fine, just be sure to overestimate the lips needed or it will spill out.

I'd also plug the benefits of a poop hammock as its underutilized.
