This is going to me an ongoign thread featuring the creation of our duck pond and duck hut. Location is chosen, plans are drawn up and research has been completed. Now to acquire enough money to build it! I believe we'll build the duck hut first. I plan on modeling it after a triangle hut I saw on this site. The pond will be cement bottomed except the shelf which will be clay. We have plenty of clay so I shouldn't need to buy that.

Currently we have 4 KC hens. In the mail are 2 WH and 4 Golden-300 all straight run. Hoping to get a Male out of the straight runs.

Here are my supremely drafted paint plans. lol

Might have to change up my plans for biological filtration. This website had some awesome choices for zone 5: http://www.pondplantgirl.com/cold-climate-ponds.htm

Before deciding on which plants to put into your pond make sure they aren't on the ducks menu because they eat most.

I'm fencing the biological filter off. They can eat it when it outgrows the fence but should be protected from them for the most part.

I've come down with the flu so I haven't been able to do any work on Quacker Shack lately. :( I have made arrangements to get the biological filter plants. I'm going to be starting them inside in a fish tank.

It's payday YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! That means materials are going to be purchased and my dream Quacker Shack shall be built!

Plans have been refined. Here they are in their glrious Paint made self:

Duck Hut plans.bmp

My previous duck hut design was going to be a stand alone triangular structure. It finally hit me that I didn't have to go through all that work. Just had to slap a few poles in the ground and nail the metal siding and ceiling on. Voila. New plans created.

My biological filter is looking a bit better. Plants have been purchased and have either arrived or are being shipped. I have them in a fish tank in the house right now.

A tree may be added for shade and wind block value. I haven't decided if I do, what kind of tree, and will it last with our winds.

Entire Duck Area plan.bmp

This is what the new plan is.

I'm going to be putting the extra metal along the bottom of the fence between the duck run and the dog run.
