I have a bearded dragon and we buy her a variety of bugs...silkworms, super worms, butter worms and sometimes wax worms. I never buy mealworms (not good for beardies) but I see that chickens love them. What is an appropriate age to offer small ones in addition to their starter- for treats? Are they able to eat any of the other insects listed?

Thanks so much!

I don't know about the others bugs listed, although I'd suspect chicks can eat all of them. A mama hen will encourage her chicks to eat about anything the adults do, right from the beginning, so there isn't an age they can't handle them. Just make sure you offer them grit as well if you are going to offer anything other than chick starter.

My chicks were eating mealworms and small crickets (they got crickets first) by the time they were a week or so old.

I fed more crickets than mealworms as it was so much fun to watch them chasing the crickets and each other around trying to steal them.
