Golden Laced Wyandotte?

Thread Starter

We ordered 2 Rainbow Layer packages of 25 each from Murray McMurray Hatchery this spring. Now we are trying to determine what breeds we have. We are doing fairly well, but this one has us a bit stumped. Any help would be much appreciated. She has a flat, pea comb.

You've already guessed!  GLW! smile.png

Currently keeping a flock of 14 chickens, one rooster and 13 hens.  I have three Easter Eggers, three Golden Buffs, two Marans and six Buff Brahmas.  My hobbies are gardening, chicken keeping, and beekeeping.  I'm married with two sons, a step son and daughter, and two really cute grandkids!

I'm so confused now.  I was prepared to say, yep, looks just like the GLW that I got, but doesn't look much like mine at either stage of development.

Only pic as a day old Sorry it's not a better pic).  This chick was very much darker than yours, I almost accused the feed store of trying to palm off a Welsummer on me as a GLW.

I don't have any interim pics, this one is as of today at 10 weeks, but mine never looked like yours.  Now I'm wondering what I have!!!

7 mile...

I don't think that is a GLW. I have no idea what it is. I'm terrible at guessing the breed; but it looks nothing like the one I had.

Here's a pic. It's Molly, in the back. I got her as a day old from Privett Hatchery.

Imp- good luck figuring it out.

I think you've got a really bad hatchery Welsummer or Brown Leghorn by the coloring and chipmunk pattern, not a GLW pattern is not consistant with that breed.

7 Mile: My only GLW looks like Garden's, that chick is pretty light for a GLW chick, looks more like a really brightly marked Dark Cornish.

Happy chickens lay happy eggs!

I have several chicks that look pretty close to each other. I now know that 1 is a Dark Cornish and pretty sure it is a roo. 1 I am positive is a GLW. The other two are the ones I have been rather confused about as they look like somewhere in between a GLW and a Dark Cornish. Those 2 that I haven't been sure about  look like the two you have the pics of here and I am now guessing mine are Dark Cornish as well. Certainly not GLW. I know I was supposed to have more DC that just the 1 roo but had begun to wonder if there was an error. I just didn't know the pattern of DC was like that and I have looked at a gazillion pics.

so... I think yours are Dark Cornish.

That's not a GLW, It looks like you have a Gold Laced/Penciled Hamburg there.

@ Gardendufus....Yes, yours is a GLW.  My profile pic is a GLW chick, and here is another pic when they were about the same size as yours....smile.png

I raise GLW's. Here's a pic of a GLW.

I think yours is not a GLW but something else.

We ordered the same rainbow layer assortment from Murray McMurray this summer.  We received 6 chicks that look just like this adorable little cinnamon girl.  I believe they are Easter Eggers, as the hatchery openly states they do not breed/sell true Ameracauana/Auracaunas.  The exotic chick in our assortment is actually a Golden Laced Wyandotte, and she is growing up beautifully!  But, she's very different from these little cinnamon chicks--much darker and with the red tip on the beak.
