20% Protein

Thread Starter

I have a month old pair of Dewlap Toulouse that are with 13 runner ducklings of the same age. They are on a 20% chick starter/grower formulated for ducks, geese, chicks, & game birds. I am having a hard time finding something other than chicken food that is 16%. Short of formulating it myself, can I use an 18% flock raiser and add some oats to lower the protein?

They are free ranging now and have access to a pond. They've checked it out but so far haven't done more than take a quick dip.

Thanks.

If they are free ranging I would not worry about cutting the protein levels down on flock raiser, I use it with my waterfowl undiluted with no problems.

I also buy a high protein feed for my chickens and geese, but cut it with oats to reduce the protein level. Except for the protein level, I like the feed itself because of the ingredients. Your goslings should do well on pasture and with access to swimming as exercise will help them develop normally and reduce the chance to develop wing problems.

Rolled oats are a great item to add, are most likely to be eaten when introduced and will help reduce the protien level.
