Did my chicks disappear ?

So , I got my first chicks a few weeks ago . We built them a great coop and put them in there when they were big enough.
When I walk outside to feed them the next morning they are GONE , no scratches on the coop .. and they could not have gotten out ! Where did they go !?
 
What kind of latch on the door and windows? Something that a raccoon could manipulate? They are develishly clever and determined, and unfortunately deadly. Hope I'm wrong and perhaps they're away in the woods frightened, but this sounds like the work of a coon.....sorry.
 
It did have a simple latch .... I hope that was not the case , but It probably was.I miss them

I am so sorry...I padlock my pop door for this reason and key lock my entry door. I worked with coons and they can open just about anything. Are you sure that they aren't hiding? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you will find them safe and ok

I hope I can find them ! maybe they will come back one day unscratched , but I doubt it . Next time I will make sure to get a good lock .
 
I had chicks get pulled through 3x4 inch holes in the wire from hawks... but that many chicks at once probably wasn't a hawk.

If you don't see blood then that's a pretty good sign though!

However you would greet them when you'd go to feed go outside near their pen and do that. I know it sounds weird, but in the past I've had some that got out when I thought there was no way and came out of the brush running when they realized I was there. Something scared them into hiding. It's amazing how small of a hole a chicken can get out of when they are scared.
