What the heck!!! I bought Purina Game Bird Flight Conditioner today for my 9 week old chicks, so I could get them off of the Start & Grow & Ultra Kibble I have been feeding them. I wanted game bird expressly for the animal protein..............well after I poured it in the can I read the label & there is no longer animal protein in it. Now I'll have to run for ultra kibble or something to supplement again. Right now there is some mixed in the top of the barrel. When did this happen? Now I have no options for animal protein feed except for the local mill. Their food has poultry by products in it and I would like to steer clear of that. People always fed game bird feed for the animal protein. Has anyone else seen this? Boy am I ticked. Purina got me again.

Not sure- but could you get standard feed and add fish meal?

They did?? Well, guess there goes one of the only alternatives for grower we even have here at all.
Purina was already on my "don't buy" list as it is-that was the one product I'd even pay a bit extra to get from them.

Purina is digging a hole that they are not going to be able to get out of.
They keep reducing the products that they have with animal protein and there going to end up at the bottom of the pile like ADM and Kalumdach.

Well, as long as my Tucker Milling is still around, they are keeping good animal protein in their feeds and advertising why they do it. I just hope the co-op keeps carrying their feed. They just don't have a plain grower for laying pullets, just for broilers.

I do not like to buy Purina, but it was the easy route yesterday. I will quit banging my head against the wall & just buy the local mash. I was using the organic soy free mash before I got rid of the layers, because it has fish meal in it. I get a little tired of the mash, but it has good ingredients & Fertrell minerals, so I guess I will just have to deal with that. Crumbles & pellets are easier, but there are no choices around here anymore. I called the feed store & their answer was Purina took it out a long time ago. I know it has been less than a year, as I have the tag from Game Bird Layena that I bought for my guineas last July. Oh well.

It wasn't that long ago, I agree! I bought a bag way less than a year ago myself. It's a seriously stupid move on their part. Birds are going to suffer for it. I hate that they never announce this stuff, either.

I was getting Kalumbach High Flyer 22 sometime back and they just up and out of the blue took out the animal protein out of there mix.
Needless to say when I found out I brought 170 lbs (one was a open bag was open) of feed back to the mill. The mill took all the feed back and sent it pulse the skid of the same feed that I was storing there back to the Mfg.
Got to love a good feed mill.

The high price of their feed and the fact that they had gone "all natural" (meaning no animal protein) is why I stopped with Purina myself. Never use it anymore unless I run out before my next run to my preferred supplier. Then I'll buy a bag to get by until i can get get to the other side of Gainesville, but that's only because the Purina dealer is much closer.
Got to love "all natural"!
First they tell you that the feed is "FREE of all animal proteins and fats for healthy, happy birds.", then they brag that it's "Enhanced with lysine and methionine to give birds the healthy nutrients they need to produce plenty of tasty eggs." Uh, yeah, when you don't have animal protein you have to backfill with synthetic aminos. Wonderfully natural!
And then there's the "sun grown grains." Glad they're not growing the corn in a cave with fluorescent lights!
