My roo is angry, suddenly and attacking! What to do! - Page 2

Update?

I have a Black Australorp (top of the order) hen that has started doing this to me. And only me. She submits to my husband and daughter. Apparently I've offended her in some way. LOL! I'll have to try holding her head down. I have to be the boss of the flock, not her.

I have also heard that you can hold them upside down by their feet and walk around in front of his girls to humiliate him.  I read that in another thread somewhere.  Absolutely wear gloves and denim to protect yourself.  Good luck showing him who the head roo is!

Again, chickens are dumb- but I don't think they are so dumb as to think I'm a rooster- I don't need to 'play' rooster for them, I am a human, I am over them, I am bigger, stronger, smarter, and the one who brings the food...

I put bad birds away from the flock in confinement in time out for two or three days, they eat from my hand during this time... they have access to water, sand/dirt and shade- just away from the flock -  which to flock animals (and pack animals like dogs) is a true punishment.

I am bringer of all good things, food, fun- and not to be attacked or challenged.

Now on the other hand I do need to be -part of the flock- or -part of the pack- but I can't show dominance like a dog, nor  should I spar with a rooster.... but I must be around enough that I am not seen as an intruder or threat.

My experience with this issue was confinement worked, acting like a rooster got me attacked from behind when I wasn't watching. I have three roosters at the moment, they do mate in front of me- I'm not interested in the hens... they do crow in front of me, -they are louder then me-  but they will not go between my legs or over me to fight (in spring) when they want to all rechallenge for head roo, these have never challenged me.

Were gloves, goggles and long pants and sleeves- If you insist of fighting a rooster-

I would just go get the offending bird (rooster or hen) at night and put them in their new area... he/she loses her status in the flock and is lonely in the meantime.

Well that sounds like a different crazy altogether- sorry about your nutz rooster.
