So this morning I threw a picture out to all of you about a silver laced wyandotte hen/roo and you all told me it was a roo because of certain features... Now I'm worried that I may have another roo, an Araucana. I really would be disappointed because, man, did I want those beautiful eggs. Here is it's picture fl.gif

full body

Thanks!

Also, it hasn't made any crowing noises yet... but that could be because the SLW is doing all of the talking.

Funny. After doing all this research to see if they were roos, I found out that our Araucana was probably not an Araucana! Feed Stores were selling them as such but they were just easter eggers. Oh well. But like I said in my other post... If you think he's pretty enough, and you're near Maryland, I can sell him to you real cheap! wink.png

From what I have read, any feed store selling hatchery-bred birds will not have Araucanas, no matter what the hatchery labels them as. If they have real ones, they got them from a private breeder.

Same almost certainly goes for Ameraucanas. MyPetChicken is offering genuine Ameraucanas (next year?) and they use Meyer Hatchery, but I'm going to hazard a guess that the average feed store arau-anything, isn't.

Not an Araucana or Ameraucana, not a girl. Easter Egger cockerel.

Yeah ... from my understanding, that red on the wings is a sure sign of a boy.

Mine grew in that same dark red and sure enough, crowed at around 9-10 weeks.
