Why didn't my eggs hatch?

Out of 30 fertile eggs in my incubator I had 20 hatch at 21 days. a further 10 failed to do so by day 24. Because I was curious I have candled the failed eggs and all look full of chicks, I did actually open one to find a perfectly fully formed chick!
Why have they failed to hatch, they didn't chip the shell at all.

Sometimes chicks just don't hatch, had they absorbed the yolk at all yet? High humidity can also cause chicks to drown in the shell, but since the other 20 hatched no problem I wouldn't say that was the problem. What was the humidity during the hatch?

all the yolk on the one I opened had been absorbed. The humidity was probably high, my hydrometer was not functioning properly, I think the needle is stuck! I guess this could be the reason.
I am going to have another go!

20 out of 30 eggs isn't too bad at all! Sometimes high humidity can play a part in late deaths. The most common cause of late death/failed hatch for me is too much humidity. And some chicks simply don't hatch... Good luck with your next batch of eggs
