Hopeful Newbie from Ohio

Thread Starter

Hello BYC family! My name is Lisa, I live in SE Ohio in a suburb of a major city and have been contemplating raising chickens for a few months. Have just begun researching the activity and have a rough idea of the zoning codes in my community. Chickens are permitted, but there are regulations regarding coop locations. We live on 1/4 of an acre, but have access to approx.2+ acres directly behind our home. My main concern is how to deal with the 3 cats we have as pets-will they try to attack/kill the chickens when they are permitted to roam the grounds? I am a school teacher, so have the summer off and hoped to start soon since I have the time to learn the craft. I welcome any and all suggestions for novice chicken raisers.

Hi and welcome-byc.gif

We keep chickens in the suburbs too, and there are cats from neighbours coming into our garden all the time. The chickens usually scare them away, but I suppose it's different for every flock. Just keep an eye on them for the first week or so and make sure there'll be no major disturbances.

And these are some Ohio ordinances if you neede any help with your research! lol.png
