Adopting peafowl

Are you interested in incubation? I would recommend that. That way, they are at least a little bit less expensive, and they will be imprinted on you for life if you're the first large moving object they see. AND you can pretty much get them from wherever you feel like. Check the Buy, Sell, Trade forum on this website, either browse or post a "wanted to buy" add if you know what you're looking for. :)

 

 

Not *quite* true- it's not instantaneous. But they will imprint if you spend enough time around them when they are young, for sure, and it really is quite amazing the difference it makes in the temperament of your birds imprinted versus raised from a young age even.

 

Lilly, if you want, I may be able to get you some eggs very cheaply. If you want to try to work something out, send me a PM :)

Depending on what service they use, you could try asking the sender to provide a tracking number and/or put your phone number on the box. Then let your post office know ahead of time that you're expecting fragile hatching eggs, and that you would like to pick them up straight from the post office when they arrive. I hope your eggs pull through!

lilypad268,,if I were you (which I'm not) I'd break open every1 of those eggs and see if they was even fertile to begin with,,,everyone will  have an egg from a pen once inawhile that isn't fertilized,,I don't know if the Peacock keeps track of who and who he hasn't bred and occassionally he could miss one,,it's happened here but the lag was only 2 days.Did you know the people you bought the eggs from? And I can imagine some unscrupulus sellers out there that may just have an overflow pen  of hens with no male with them,,yet still sell the eggs as fertile,,much bigger scams are done everyday,,just watch American Greed sometime.

  Lilypad,,,I'm with Kedreeva,,I'm in  no way planning on retiring  from peafowl egg sales,,I want to move some Peacocks today-tomorrow and do some much anticipated "experimental" breeding since the hens seems to be on a hiatus from laying,,granted for the next few days the eggs I get will still be from the Peacock the hens was with earlier,,but possibly for a week after the move some eggs may,or may not be fertile until the new Peacock settles them,,you would still be taking a risk,but you buy the shipping and I could scrounge up maybe a dozen.
