oh ok i understand. if i were you i wouldnt either. good luck. maybe if you stick something loud like windchimes or something right outside the coop it would keep them away. or a bunch of motion triggered lights.

I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats, 2 barred rock females, too many to count roo br, 5 golden sebrights, 4 silkies, 1 silkie pekin mix, i think, 4 welsummers, 4 red stars, 1 rhode island red, 1 tetra tint, 4 partridge rock, and 3 unknown.

I would shoot away, I think that the chance of starting a forest fire because of a gun shot is very very slim.

Joe not forest fire field fire. Nothing worse then a grain fire in 90 plus temps. Yep I have fought then and gotten singed on them too. Not fun.

Better safe then sorry. Besides our laws state that if you start a fire you pay for damaged to the neighbors property plus the cost a supression. No thanks!

But like I said if I get them in the cross hairs I will fire.

 

Lost another duck today. They are coming in the yard while I am at work and DH is out in the field.

Birds are terrified. Too blasted hot to lock them in the coop.

Actually, fires can be started by gunfire.  Some of the fires around here cost millions of dollars to fight.  Find some other way to get rid of your predators during fire season.

Not saying it could not happen, just saying I myself would not shoot a coyote because I was worried about starting a fire, Our areas may be diferent so problems you may have may not be a issue here.

Each area is completely different Joe that is why I was telling you what is going on with the fire danger.

NOW if it finally rains I would feel better shooting the buggers.

snares are your friend when dealing with yotes traps and snares work 24/7 it is much easier to sleep once they are set

I agree. the only problem with that is having to kill them afterward. but if  you are lucky maybe they will die without any water and the heat.

Black powder rifles are FAR  more likely to start a fire than a weapon firing modern double-based propellant.   About the only way to light-off grass with a modern weapon would be from direct muzzle blast   If one was firing prone with grasses within a few inches of the muzzle it's POSSIBLE, but unlikely.    Firing from the standing position your chances of a problem are about a low as the likelihood of being hit by a meteor.    You may fire when ready Gridley. (Tips hat to Admiral Dewey).
