Explaining Chicken Math - Page 2

I explain it with 'more hens means more eggs'  :)  Only problem I have is we live in the city and animal control only allows 6.  Shhhh they don't know about my 21 chicks

Wicked funny!!!  I started with 4 eggs.  None hatched.  Got 12 more, 7 hatched, but only 1 survived (??!).  Bought 6 babies, making 7 total, but now I gotta get rid of 2 cause I have 3 roos.  And I really only wanted 4 hens.  Chicken math is at least fun.

I now feel very lucky. That my 3-6 chicks to start with only became 11 lol.

At first, I wanted 2 chickens. Then,I decided 4 was better. I planned to order 5. I ordered 7. One died, leaving me with 6. I planned to get one more, and I got 3 more instead. So, in total, I went from wanting two chickens, to having 9. I guess I should thank my town limit of 12 and my annual license charge of $5 a bird, every year. Someday when I'm on my own however, things will be MUCH different... I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.... For now. Good luck with your collection!

Kansas City says I can have a maximum of 15 laying hens.

I talk my husband into 3-4 for a solid dozen a week or so for us.
We speak with neighbors, they are excited at the prospect of some fresh eggs.
I talk my husband up to 6 to have extra.

We get to the feed store and they amazingly have the exact breeds we researched to have in our flock.
So the idea was to get 3 SLWs and 3 EE.

The feed store tells us that out of the 25 EE they had in, 15 were reserved for 1 person, 6 for another person, leaving 4.
They talk us into taking the extra EE so that she wouldn't be in there all by herself.

Then my husband talks ME into getting an additional Brown Leghorn... (it was a really hard to say no to my 37 year old man after the "kewt-widdo-babee-weggurns" melted him.  gig.gif)

So we bring home 8.

4 weeks later, I think we have two cockerels...

So the final count is 6 hens and two dinners.  Still holding out for pullets, though, because if not, I'll only have 1 brown layer in the bunch, which means I'll have to get at least 3 more bringing us up to 9...

Supporting the arts = paying artists a fair wage. Art Prices should be reflecting an hourly wage (time has value)+mastery(value of skills & experience)+material cost (paint, paper, etc)+taxes (because it's the law)+shipping (because it isn't safe or free). When an artist gives away work, they don't value/appreciate the time invested in their talent/skills or that artwork.  So why would you?

These stories are cracking me up!  I have done very well for the past 2 years, having started with 4, expecting to eventually get down to the 3 maximum I'm allowed to have.   After dealing with raccoons, I've had 2 sturdy hens for the past year.   And THEN last month, knowing I was considering 4 new birds, a friend offered me free chicks, and somehow I came home with 8.   Who turns down free chicks?  A crazy man, that's who.   DW has now somehow convinced me to keep my adult hens, bringing my total to 10.   Not too shabby, but of course it's TRIPLE my legal limit.  I haven't had eggs in 2 weeks, trying to save enough to pre-bribe the neighbors, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of getting chickens in the first place.   Wow.

The only thing he said as he walked back toward the house was "You are crazy".

Hmmmm, sneaking them in.... BRILLIANT!!!!!

I keep hearing my hubby mutter under his breath "Found me a city girl and she turned into a country girl..."
