I love that name... I thought of a good one for an escape artist... Poof...

cuz you know magicians and wizards on tv through that dust and it makes a cloud and then they poof away and escape... just a thought!! lol

I like Poof!  I think that's what it'll be.  I came home tonight and found her on top of the pen.  She panic'd when i picked her up (she was asleep), but would have been perfectly content if i'd just let her sleep in my hands.

Its my first set and I'd love to join as well. I'm setting in forty five minutes. I've got two Australorpes, two Silkie, and two Barred Plymouth Rocks. I've been maintaining 100-101 in my still air incubator and my humidity is at 54-56%.
Is 56% ok?

Hello everyone!!!

WOW!  These chicks are big and beautiful!  I just love seeing you all enjoying your babies.  I am not at my home computer so can't post the most recent ones.  However, I have some great pics of them a couple weeks ago in my profile photos.  Check out all my sweet babies!!!

YOU AREN'T GOING TO BELIEVE THIS!!!!  Out of 14 eggs I purchased, I ended up with TWO pullets.  All those cockerals.  OIY!!!  I need just a couple more pullets, though.  So, I am going to set again when the weather cools in the Fall.

Wouldn't it be fun to have a Halloween hatching!?!?!   Who would be in for that?  What day would we need to set them?

Anyone up for some tricks & treats?!?!

xoxo Annmarie

Annmarie, good to hear from you! Sorry you have so many roos - our luck seems to be about the same. I have 4 hens and 16 roos! What are we going to do with that many boys?! Any luck with new homes for Rizzo and Special Ed? Saw pics of your babies. They're really cute. I think Special Ed is tops! Love your coop. Are you using that with your chicks? I don't think I will be incubating for awhile. It's just not a good time here in fall and winter to be raising young chicks. Hope you find others that are starting batches. Keep us posted with any news, I like hearing about our "old" group! Guess we've passed the stage of newbies now! Good luck!

I set my eggs on 8/13.  I wanted to find out if my new hens eggs were fertile, so I went out and bought an incubator.  So far, they seem to be doing good.  I have no idea what I am doing, but I really hope they make it.

Good luck!!  I've got a hen that went broody so I'm excited to see if the eggs are fertile.  I'm not sure if our rooster is old enough yet.

Thanks!  Good luck to you also :)

I bought my new girls a couple of weeks ago.  The two hens were in with a roo, but he was a noisy little bugger and we can't have roos in the city, so I had to give him away.  I decided to incubate some of the hens eggs, in hopes that the roo had done his job while they were in the cage together.  Well, it looks like he did.  Of the 7 eggs I have, 5 are fertile and started developing.  4 of the eggs contain very active babies, the 5th I'm not so sure about.

My, hopefully, soon to be babies are Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock Bantams.

I've tried to check the eggs under my hen, but she bit me, so i'm not sure yet how i'm going to check.  She's not the most friendly thing in the world! barnie.gif
