I think Gertrude is a Roo! Can somebody tell me for sure?

I thought she was a hen since her comb seems smaller, but lately she has been a bit aggressive and now I'm think she's a he!photo13.JPGphoto11.JPGphoto15.JPG

I'm not too good at this, but I'd say pullet. How old?

 

Chickens: Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps, Delawares, Silver Sebrights and Golden Polish (bantams)

Ducks: Mallards, Khaki Campbells and Black East Indies

Wild Ducks: Northern Pintails

Geese: Pilgrims

Others: Ringneck Pheasants, Gambel's Quail and Emu

Breed  please... :)

 

Looks like a head hen to me....

They usually start to get the pecking order worked out around this time....

My goal.....a Rainbow Egg Basket and a small sustainable living farm.

I was told a Gold Comet when i purchased it, 11 weeks old.

That's a Gold Comet pullet. 

I live with my partner and our daughter in the foothills of NC. We LOVE our critters!

It looks like a pullet to me.  Girls can be a bit feisty too depending on their personality.  I once had a pullet named "cocky pants" and appropriately so.   It was the only thing we ever called her as that is how she acted whenever we interacted with her.  She ended up being a sweet girl, but she was one of the bossier hens.  Girls can also take on the rooster role if there is no rooster around.  I've even heard them crow in the absence of a rooster.

yep...that is a red sex-link also known as golden comet....sex-links are color sexable....if this were a roo it would be mostly white with red on its wings.

Ive often wondered how many others name their chickens before they know the sex. We have one rooster. His name is Midge. Lol.
