First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.

Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.

They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

Okay, I can't resist :) A couple pictures of some of our 2012ers.

And our low ranking chicken who is 1 year old. She's doing much better after some time in her protective pinafore.

Whoever said don't count your chickens before they're hatched clearly never tried to count chickens after they're hatched.

All very cute. Especially the one that looks like a red star

I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 goats, 2 barred rock females, too many to count roo br, 5 golden sebrights, 4 silkies, 1 silkie pekin mix, i think, 4 welsummers, 4 red stars, 1 rhode island red, 1 tetra tint, 4 partridge rock, and 3 unknown.

when my chicks went through the "ugly" stage the looked horrible! every one thought they were sick!

Ok, I can't resist. Here are a few pics of my Buff Orphington's and our farm here. The ladies are a year old now.

The Girls playing in the garden. Looking for worms and other yummy things to eat.

Miss Sweet Pea tending my garden for me. I weed she looks for worms.

Roy and the ladies.

The gardens that the ladies love to tend in the evenings when I let them have free range time.

They are great at getting all the bugs off my plants and tilling the soil for me as they go.

Wife and Mother of 2 boys, 2 cats, a whole bunch of fish, 13 BO hens and 1 BO Rooster (Roy Rooster).
Give me the simple country life.

The new hang out for the 3 1/2 mo old RIRs...

The babies....maybe hoping for a sister? (One of my barred rocks is just too good for a nice comfy nest box upstairs....she has taken to laying in this corner of the coop downstairs!)

Mommy Maxene heading out with the kids...

The latest broody, Juliet, out for a stretch....Max was getting a little too close so she had to let him know....Back Off! (hoping for new chicks any day now!! )
