My chicken is hunched over and looks sick!

Just this morning i went out to let out my chickens(they are free range) and i noticed one was sitting hunched in a corner. When it tried to walk it barely could, and it stayed hunched up.i didnt know what to do so i decided to check it again in a hour. I found it hunched up in a corner. It looked like it was laying an egg so i picked it up to take a look.( this is very abnormal for this chicken to let me pick it up, its veryskittish)
When i took a look at it i set it on the table i could see it trying to push something from its butt. It also has pasty butt. Slowly the hen tried to move and almost fell off the table! It went to another corner hunched up.
A little bit later i checked again and it didnt move at all. When i set it down it just falls and slides its legs out from under neath her. She wont walk now at all and im worried. I tried to at least set her on her feet but she falls forward on her face and doesnt even tryto move. She wont eat or drink and seemed fine yesterday.at first i thought it was egg bound but didnt feel or find an egg inside her..does anyone know whats wrong or have dealt with this.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! Is it possible that the hen could have mites? From what I understand, mite infestations can cause chickens to become weak and anemic and die if it's severe enough.

Hopefully, some other folks will have suggestions, too.

Hang in there!

Try offering her a scrabbled egg and some Vitamin & Electrolytes in her water. Mix up some sugar water and offer her that to give her some energy then maybe she will want to eat. Not sure what the deal is with her but good luck!

There are a few of us having this problem today. farther down there is a post about a chicken laying down limp. and me too. hmm. I wonder what it is. I use DE in their food and bedding, I wouldn't think mites. I was wondering about a tick maybe. I looked, but I think I'll look again. My dog kind of acts that way when she gets one, she is a 12 lb peekapoo. chickens may react the same way.

I just lost 2 teenage chicks this am to the same thing.  Last night they were just laying down with their legs straight out and their feet curled up, bodies were not stiff, but not limp, neck & heads were lolling around.  Wondered about a snake bite.  Got these chicks at Southern States, so I don't know about vaccinations......do folks think I should move others to another space for safety?????

i didn't find a tick. she is laying on the floor by the back door looking at all her friends, I just came back in and found an egg about 3 inches away from her. She seems happy and content, eating, but laying down. I hope she doesn't die. It's the one I picked for my avatar.

How old is your chicken?  I don't know what is wrong with your chicken, but if you haven't already, you must separate your sick chicken from the others.  You can place her in a box indoors (line it with a towel for comfort) where you can watch her and not spread illness to your other birds, if it is something contagious.  You should also place at least some water there in case she may drink some.

Could your bird have gotten into something toxic? just a thought.

mine has been in since i found her, she's on the inside of the sliding glass doors looking out, that is the door they sneak in if you don't shut it all the way. So I figured she'd be happy there. I'm wondering if its a hip or something. she seems fine, just laying in one spot. she has pooped, ate drank and even laid an egg since i brought her in. she doesn't seem to wince or anything when i pick her up. I'm sure she'd love to hang out with the chicks and let them jump all over her, but no, I don't want to expose any others just in case.
