I've been working on this video for a while now. I hope it helps people who are thinking about getting backyard chickens, and people who are just getting started. If you know anyone just starting out please share this with them.

What do you think? Pretty good? Pretty bad?

I thoroughly enjoyed the video.  It is so great to see folks that obviously enjoy their chickens.  Lucky girls, by the way!

nice video. Good length. Very cute coop. love the door. Nice healthy looking chickens. I'm surprised you have chicken wire instead of hardware cloth. I wonder if you have rats/mice eating your chicken feed at night while your chickens sleep.

Joan,

I got the chicken wire from my father in-law for free, so I guess beggars can't be choosers. I have seen the food bucket swinging back and fourth at night from time to time. My varmint hunting schnauzer gets really interested in something out there sometimes. I guess we might get rats/mice here and there, but I haven't noticed it much. If it becomes a problem, I will make the switch to hardware cloth.

Nice video.  Great design on your coop too!  I do have a question though regarding your choice for bedding.  I've read of the toxicity of cedar chips in regards to respiratory problems in small animals. There is information all over the internet about this.

Here are just a few sources in support of this

Googled "Cedar Toxicity" these came up

Glad you've not seen any signs of respiratory problems in your flock.

RedBarnFarms,

Thanks for the info! I will be switching to straw or pine shavings when I run out cedar. I just watched your barn/coop video, and I'm jealous! I wish I had room for something like that.

Great video's, I thoroughly enjoyed your coop design, approach and care of maintaining your chickens. The affection is obviously reciprocal. We are just starting out and enjoy watching and reading tips from others.
