Chicks mailed yesterday. PO says will be delivered tomorrow. Will they survive?

Our chicks from Meyer were mailed yesterday using express mail.  The PO says they did not come on today's truck.  Can they live another day without food/water?

Yes usually they will be alright up 2 days unless they get chilled or very hot. You still might have a coupled dead.

I have Bantam welsummers, Bantam Cuckoo Marans, Bantam Wc black polish, Bantam Olive eggers, MGB, LF Welsummers, BCM, Wild type turkeys RioxEastern, Ringneck pheasants blacks and 1 blue roo and bunch of free range birds

Five out of ten chicks I just got today (ordered Monday) from Cackle Hatchery were dead, so anything can happen. I think of it as basically rolling dice; you either get it good or you don't. Most chick orders I've heard of end pretty good, so I think there's a good chance they'll all live.

I am a Roman-Catholic Chicken Girl and proud to be one! Proud owner of 1 Easter Egger rooster, 2 Buff Orpington hens, 2 Silver-Laced Wyandotte hens, 1 ISA Brown hen, 3 Cherry Egger pullets, 5 Barred Rock pullets, 4 Silkie chicks, 3 Ameraucana chicks, 1 Mille Fleur d'Uccle chick, 1 Porcelain d'Uccle chick, 9 Cornish Rock cross chicks and 1 spunky, independent Black Star hen!

Agreed. It's a crap shoot dependent on weather, how gentle the postal employees are in moving the box around, the inherent strength and health of the chicks, etc.

Mine shipped on a Monday from Ohio to CT and arrived 6a on a Wednesday - USPS tracking said "guaranteed" by Tuesday 3p. All 7 alive, even the silkies. We got lucky I think. If we weren't trying to get sexed bantams I wouldn't have chosen a hatchery that has to deliver by mail.

I'm hoping for a good outcome for your babies. Many many people receive theirs after more than 1 day and they're OK.

So......did they arrive? All OK?

Our Freedom Rangers hatched and shipped on a Wednesday.  According to the routing ticket on their box, they went from Philly to Ft. Worth to Oklahoma City to Chicago to us.  They arrived on first truck on Saturday morning.  I was a basket case!  (This was in early April, and a hard freeze happened on Thursday and Friday nights - very widespread).  All 26 arrived alive and well.

First thing is to introduce EACH one to the waterer.  Dip beak into water at least three drink-fulls.  Once that's done, they'll find the food on their own.
