Hmm, well, if the chick does have yellow legs and a pea comb then turns out to lay eggs in the blue color family, probably the best you could do is call it an Easter Egger. I do seem to recall, back when I was doing some breeding with Blue/Black/Splash Ameraucanas, I had a chick who popped up with some yellowish legs once, out of white skinned parents-that would be the hidden genes someone mentioned earlier in the thread.

Somewhere back in the lineage of even the best lines of birds, there could have been an outcross to a different breed to create a new color or trait and that gene pops up suddenly many years later. It happens and surprises even the most reputable breeders. I have a hen now who came out of a nice blue egg from a BBS Ameraucana flock, but as she got older, her body type and tail set seemed slightly "off". Then, she grew spurs and began laying brown eggs, even though her skin color, leg color and comb type are correct for Ameraucana. Just looking at her, you can tell that she has Sumatra in her lineage way back somewhere, though her parents look to be pure Ameraucana. Genes can be tricky things!

You may want to see how these chicks develop a bit. Sometimes, you have to wait awhile to see what you have.

Yea, that's what I'm planning. I've had a good time watching them day after day change so quickly. I'm really looking forward to seeing what my "black" chick does. Now I just need to figure out what I am going to do with my most likely roos that were supposed to be pullets. Time will tell for sure. It's just that waiting game that can drive ya nuts. lol

If she is a cross of a Marans and an Ameraucana then you will have an Olive Egger, not a blue/green egg layer. I have a few of those from my first hatch of Marans/Ameraucana mixed.

I went out this morning and  took a bunch of pics of my newest babies. My BCM DOES have brown on his feathers.

This is my girl that looks like yours:

I'm pretty certain this is a girl and that is not the rust colored leaking you find on some cockerels.

I think this is a Black Copper Marans on the left and Blue Copper Marans on the right, both boys:

Black Copper Marans, he has the same brown on the wing feathers as the girl in the first pic:

Olive Egger boy. He has a pea comb, but feathered legs and is a dark blue color.

The one that looks like your girl on the left:

This is a Wheaten Marans crossed with an Ameraucana, he has muffs but it's hard to see in this pic:

I'm new at raising Marans so I could be completely wrong lol. My first hatch of Marans and Marans mixes was back in March, and here are some pics of those chicks: (I got the eggs for both hatches from the same local person so they all have the same parents)

Blue Copper Marans boy in front, Wheaten Marans/Ameraucana cross girl in the back.

Same two birds but in the back is the black mixed Ameraucana/Wheaten Marans Olive Egger:

Out of 31 total I got one splash Olive Egger girl. She is the only one that has green legs.

LOL yes, all TEN of them!! I think so too, and they are sooo sweet. Unfortunately I can't keep the cockerels but I do have three people that take them when they get a bit older.

still looks like a black sex link chick to me. It can have any breed of parents as long as the mother is barred or cuckoo.

but it does look like the BCM the other poster posted.
