What do you all think about Euthanasia? - Page 2

I believe it is every persons right to choose how they live, love.  I think there is difference between a depressed person that could benefit from help/meds and a person who is terminal and cannot regain their quality of life.

For those that do not know, I am living with the love of my life who is terminal with a very confusing time frame of 4 months to 4 years.  When his time comes that he cannot move alone, breath without great effort or get himself to ANY toilet and he wants to go?  I will let him.  With a breaking heart, while knowing his dignity is in tact.

If I was not physically able to kill myself, I would not ask someone else to do it. I have read case studies on locked in and seem to remember a good portion of them dying soon after diagnosis. I also remember reading about people who had spontaneous recovery but those people didnt have it as a secondary condition like having a stroke first. I dont believe we need most laws and I support your friends right to make his own decisions. Personally, I think that God put me here for lessons. One of those lessons may be dying a painful death and to keep learning right up until my last breath. So I wouldnt choose to euthanasia.

I totally agree with YOUR "ANALYSIS" !!!

My seat-belt OR my helmet is MY CHOICE....and so are the "DRUGS" I CHOOSE to use (or not) prescribed by "my" Doctors....(Rheumatologists, Cardiologists, and other SELF-CENTERED, POWER-CENTRIC,  idiots!!!

I do "much better" when I don't "follow their advice".  ( BUT...IF I tell THEM ...WHY...my "tests" are BETTER....WE are in an "argument" about their education and knowledge vs my "autodidactic" RESEARCH ! ......I guess that THEY are convinced that since my "formal education" ENDED before College Graduation....I'm a DUMMY. )

Too MANY B    S     T laws...... ( and people don't seem to REALIZE that EVERY "LAW" that controls their "crazy neighbor" ...ALSO steals their own "God-Given Liberties" !!! )

Due to your "insight"....I will say to you....that I would "go-jeeping" with YOU anytime !

( although I'm NOW too-danged-old and disabled....I've done a LOT of THAT !!! )

BEST to YOU !!!

I am of the belief that choosing the time and manner of ones own death is in fact our Last Right.

I do not think anyone should be compelled to assist against their will, but neither should they be allowed to interfere.

In the case of severe depression (at any age, but particularly teens) the situation is much more gray. For pretty much anyone else though it is their right if they so choose.

When people choose to end thier life hope is gone.  IMO when your hope is gone you are already dead and living on borrowed time so it really doesn't matter human to human. With God that may be another story.

Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton agreed on little publicly, but they did agree that when the public treasury becomes a public trough and the voters recognize that, they will send to government only those who promise them a bigger piece of the pie

Humans have a right to end their lives. They do not have the right to make that choice for others, and that is in regards to parents killing their kids because life sucks for the parents. The locked in guy has made it clear he wants to die,and others need to stop being selfish and let him go.Give the poor man some opium and let him drift off surrounds by family that loves him. People are worried that if you let people who want to die die, then others will abuse it to murder people who really don't want to die. I have taken care of young people who could not move from the neck down, and I gotta say even with good care and all the comforts in the world I would not want to live YEARS like that. I would be so angry if my family kept me alive like some doll, and did not really care about what I needed done. It is so hard to let go,but sometimes it is the best thing you can do.I am scared that I will have to face this with my family, but I would do that for a loved one,and not make it a public/court issue allowing others to determine what we can and can not do.

I do not disagree with you.  Read Socrates thoughts on suicide some time.

I can agree with what is being said here...if I had a terminal disease ..I dont want to be a burden on my family ....I want to die with dignity intact.....I would like to be able to choose a time(day/month) to that my family /friends could choose to be there or not so they have support....

Have you ever visited a nursing home? Seen your grandmother tied upright in a wheelchair with a bed sheet, and not recognizing you? Not knowing what year it is or who is President? She would ask when my grandfather was coming "home". He'd passed away 12 years earlier. Mercifully, she finally passed away.400 In the end she couldn't even feed herself.

I have sworn that I will not die that way. I have enjoyed life too much. I do not care what the law says about my decision. I have lived on my own terms and will die the same way.

I watched my mother die a slow death.  Took her several years to finally slip away to her eternal reward.  Just horrible to see her like that.  Just lying in the bed.  Staring at the ceiling with unseeing eyes.  My sister hand-fed her for several months.  Changed her diaper for years.

As a person who uses chemicals to euthanize animals, I wondered why people had to linger like my mother did.  Now, I would never be able to euthanize my mother, and probably have severe psychological issues if I had to euthanize human beings-bad enough doing someone's pet.

In today's society I can see human euthanasia being abused.  Killing off dear old Uncle Bob to get his house, car, or whatever.  Or simply ending a life because there are no funds maintain a good quality of life.  Or killing off your depressed brother because he's tired of living.  Ending a life should never be easy.

I was a volunteer for a hospice in AZ for 4 years.  After seeing all that they can do for pain and other quality of life issues, I don't think that there are many cases where it would be necessary - IF the person is in a location where they can get services.  Most people started out with a lot of fear and misconceptions, then when they realized that their pain could be managed, and that they could get care (no matter whether they could pay or not).  They saw that rather than being a burden on their families, they could spend their last days saying whatever needed to be said and just being with the ones who loved them.  However, in the rare cases where there is too much pain, or no local services, I do believe in the rights of a person to make their own decision.
