Hello from FL

Thread Starter

Hi everyone!!  New chicken owner in Central Fl, and dont let my user name imply that I am any kind expert on chickens.  My 5 yr old daughter and 8yr old son starting calling me the "Chicken Boss" when we first got our chickens, so it stuck.  We started our small flock of 5 April 1st with a mix of a RIR, Gold Laced Wyndotte, California White, Barred Rock and what we were told was an Americana, but have sinced learned that it might be a Blue Jersey Giant - will post pics soon for help identifying.  Also not sure if all are pullets - a few of them are in question.

So far so good - coop was fun to build, maintenance is minimal due to being able to free range during the day and having a watering system, gravel/sand run = easy daily cleaning and the chickens are a blast for the entire family!!  Learned what little I know from BYC and look forward learning more and sharing info when able.

HELLO back, from Florida! welcome-byc.gif I just started my flock in April, but have been a BYCer for a year soaking up all I can.  There is a wealth of information here!  Welcome and good luck! And a warning, chicken fever is EXTREMELY contagious. I have it! We just built our coop last month and hubby has already recognized that expansion will be necessary for my treatment! wink.png

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan big_smile.png

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Hi and welcome-byc.gif

Glad your family is enjoying the chickens!
Hope you can identify your chickens. I just had a closer look at your avatar and I wasn't 100% sure on the gender. Then again I've only ever had hens and I have next to zero knokwledge about a lot of breeds lau.gif

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site. big_smile.png
