Supposed to be a black star pullet.....thinking barred rock roo?????

Not happy at all that this isn't what is was supposed to be! We purchased these at the feed store on may 9th. I really didn't want another roo so we went with pullets, and sex linked even....so I am 100% sure this isn't a pullet black star but what is it?  I kept thinking maybe black stars got the combs and wattles earlier or something but when I added mama and the 3 surrogate babies to the main group this little chick went after our roo who is twice his size!   Please tell me I am missing something and this is indeed a pullet, yep I hear you all laughing now barnie.gif

Looks like a black sex link rooster--the boy counterpart to your black star pullets. When you're buying black sex links do not get one with a spot on it's head, that is what shows it's a boy. You want a solid color on the head, that's a girl. Sorry.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

That's what I thought...bummer.  I didn't realize the boys look so much like barred rocks, but now I know:)  I don't remember there being a spot on its head as a baby, but I will have to go back and look at some pics.  Now I know for next time right?

Yep, it's a boy.  Black SL roos are next to impossible to tell apart from Barred Rock babies, unfortunately.  And they get mixed up at the hatchery, and the feedstore all the time.

Sorry you didn't get what you wanted :(
