First eggs

Found the first two pullet eggs from this year's order of ISA Browns yesterday.

They were hatched February 21st so by my reckoning that's seventeen weeks exactly. A week earlier to the day than last year's batch.

Doesn't matter how many birdss I've had over the years it's always exciting to find the first eggs from a flock of pullets. I ordered sixty of them this year and gradually sold all but the dozen I kept for myself as started or point of lay pullets. Works out more or less that I get the ones I kept for free at their point of lay.

Two more flocks of this year's pullets to go!

I left yesterday's in the nest to encourage them to lay in the box.

And the proud girls who laid them that jumped into the nest box to see what I was doing with their eggs!

Beautiful! My four newest ones look just like yours (they are a cross between RIR and White Rock) and I found the 1st 2 eggs yesterday AM! I was told they would start laying soon, but they were sooner than expected.
