Hello from Jacksonville, FL

Thread Starter

I'm copying the BYC suggested introduction questions, but if you have any others feel free to ask. I'm always happy to talk chickens and answer questions. My experience is in Wyandottes in particular, although I have put in a great deal of time researching other breeds to become a knowledgeable chicken enthusiast.

(1)  Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I guess you could say fairly new. I started at the beginning of 2012.

(2)  How many chickens do you have right now?

Only 1 at the moment, although I am hoping to get more as soon as I gain the space for it.

(3)  What breeds do you have?

A Wyandotte rooster. He is of the Golden Laced variety.

(4)  How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Stumbled across it during research.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Other than raising chickens I spend most of my time studying law as well as assisting in a local law firm. Recreational target shooting and cooking are other hobbies.

(6)  Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm a big fan of Wyandottes, although I would also like to acquire some other breeds such as Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Rocks, Delwares, and perhaps even Australorps or Stars. Despite the fact that those breeds are all great egg layers, egg laying is only a secondary consideration. I'm mostly in it for the love of the animal and the fun of keeping chickens as pets.

I'm glad to finally be joining the community. If you are in North Florida, or just share an interest, feel free to introduce yourself.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?
