Thanks everybody! My hubby wanted to check under the other girl just to see if anything was happening, and the other egg has hatched too!!!!! The chicks look exactly the same. I'm guessing some kind of barnyard mix. I'm so thrilled!!!!

Congrats!  You'll have to share your secret for silkies.  We have had bad luck hatching them.  We have 2 silkies left in the bator fl.gif.  I had to order some from Ideal for my son this morning.  He was crushed when we had to chunk eggs last night!

No....don't tell me that!!!! My son gave up on hatching silkies:( Last night, we had to get rid of 5 eggs that were either infertile (3) or early death (2) after 8 days.  This was our third batch that we had ordered off of ebay.  It seemed most were infertile.  I left some of them in there up to 10 days thinking 'one day the light was not going to shine through'.  Well,  this morning he was still bummed.  I had to break down and buy some chicks from Ideal for him.  They will be here this week.  He is exstatic!

Aww yeah i worried about shipping eggs ..especially silkies since they are sooo small...was lucky to find some one who had who had some nearby.... So instead of shipping took a 30 min ride to pick them up..mand rested them for 6 hrs before putting them in.

Secrets ... Not sure if they really are but i did alot of ready and decided to do dry incubation ...temps on top of egg 101 , humidity was 20-35 percent umm. Turned them 3 times a day... And spike the humidity during lockdown 75 percent... Sooo far soo good but this is my 1st hatch... Havent open the incubator since i put them into lockdown.... Soo heres to hoping all goes well.

I just bought some chicks.  I hate for his heart to be so broken.  They were in the best bator, so I don't know if it was the shipping or the shipper(s) or the entire process.  you just never know.  I felt like I could be safe just getting the chicks.  I also got my daughter some Rougen (I think I spelled it right) ducks. This is turning into a zoo around here.

Lol i know what you mean.... We started with 2 chicks last summer... Now we have 8 ... But over had 14 thru out the year with 2 that passed and 5 that ended up being roos ...out of 8 we have 1 that may be a roo so he will be rehomed if thats the case ... We had two ducks we had to rehome cause the drake was trying to mate my hens was sad cause we rasied them from a week old... But couldnt have any hurt chickens.... We got eggs to hatch so my 4 year old can learn the process ....we'll probably keep atleast one.... Will be too hard not too, and in the really near future have some runner duck eggs which i'll be keeping one a girl hopefully and giving some to my mom... These feathered friends are addicting... Especially the silkies. Sure youll be wanting more;)
