Feed questions.

Thread Starter

I have 2 age groups of chicks...Oldest 6 are 13 wks. and the youngest 28 are 8 wks.  I was reading on this site and discovered that I was giving them the wrong crumble.  I am very new to having chickens.  I just went to the feed store and told them I needed scratch and crumble.  After reading here, I went and looked and it said it was for chickens 16 wks or older.th.gif  I hope I haven't caused any damage to my babies feeding them the wrong stuff.  hit.gif I ran over to the feed store and asked for starter grower crumbles but not medicated and he said they are starting to faze that out?  Have any of you heard this?   Now I'm worried I am not feeding my babies the right stuff.  I have decided to only keep their feed in the coop, but I do keep a waterer inside and another large one outside with frozen ice bottles as it has been very hot here.  I give them watermelon and other fruits and boiled eggs chopped real fine.  Also I had some pickled beets , is that safe for them to eat?  Thanks for any help.   I love this site, I have learned so much on it, and I love my gals..oh and the wee roo that got snuck in on me.. tongue.png

I'm not sure, but you could make your own feed until you know how your chicks are, just search homemade chick food. They'll probably be fine as long as you didn't feed them lay hen's food.

They will be fine. whoever told you they are phasing out non medicated starter is full of bologna. try to find a grower feed, if you can;t find non medicated starter. putting them on a lower protien grower food right now won't hurt them any.
