North Carolina - Page 3

Hi everyone!  I'm brand new to the site.  I live in Raleigh.  I only just found out recently that it was even legal to have chickens within city limits.

I did some research of the laws and zoning in Raleigh, and I am in a residential zone 4.  It allows a "research farm", so surely a few chickens should be OK?

If someone from Raleigh could give me more info on how many I can have, or direct me to more specific info online, I'd appreciate it. :-)

I have wanted chickens since I was little.  I hope to have a small flock of 6-10, for companionship, eggs, and fertilizer.

I was sad because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet, and I beat him up and took HIS shoes, because what does a guy with no feet need shoes for, anyhow?

Cool, Southern28!  I love it here.  I'm relocated from New York originally.  I fit in much better here, though. :-)

Wow, there ARE a lot of NCers here!

I am going to buy my first chickens at the State Fair, I think.  I want either a pair of White Leghorn, or one WL and one Rhode Island Red.

I am on administrative leave from my job right now, and I have been working my bottom off getting my house and yard in order.  I haven't decided for sure where to put the coop yet, but it is small enough that I should be able to move it around.

I have a question... if I put a light in the coop, will they lay over the winter?  How many hours of light should they have?
