I have four 5-week old Blue Slate and Bourbon Red poults in a brooder inside my bathroom. I brought them home from the feed store when they were about 1 week old and they almost immediately flew out of the brooder. Hmmm... my chickens never did that. Luckily, I had some bird netting on hand and was able to cover the top of the brooder.
Over the course of the past month, the turkeys have managed to escape multiple times. I've watched them work together to yank the netting free and fly out. Before I figured out what they were doing, I found droppings in random places in the bathroom. They had escaped, had some fun out and about, and then flew back into the brooder!
These are NOT dumb birds. They have earned my respect, but I am looking forward to moving them out this weekend.
