Tell me everything that I should know about SILKIES!

I just brought home two four month old Blue Silkies.  Other than looking a bit dirty, they seem to be in good health.  I have only owned Big Orpingtons, and have never even touched a Silkie until now.  They are supposed to be a pair.  Silkie experts give me your tips on raising happy healthy birds. what to look for as far as quality etc.  I am calling them Wills and Kate.  Hope its not Wills and Wills etc.  I will post pics later but one birds is darker blue almost black and the other is more of a blue like I am used to seeing in my Orps.  Thanks for your advise. I look forward to learning!

Idle Hour Orpingtons
Blue, Black, Splash,
Chickens, Goats, Miniature Horses, Geese, Dogs, Cats.  Most will stay here forever, except for some of the poultry.  I will offer chicks and eggs from time to time.  My goal is to breed the best Orpingtons that I can.    Emphasis is on quality not quantity. We have also started raising Silkies.

Go to the Silkie thread and learn all you ever wanted to know about Silkies! http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread/20800   Welcome to the crazy and wonderful world of the fluffy butts! gig.gif Forgot to add. This is not the only Silkie thread, just probably the most active. There are quite a few of them for the different color varieties.

there is a pretty cute site (and informative) called brown egg blue egg that has lots of info on silkies and pics, and heath care info- the owner also raised araucana too.  Can't tell you much myself, I used to think they were pretty ugly and useless, but then I hatched some chicks out for a friend and they have grown on me . . . it's hard to be annoyed by something so docile and fluffylove.gif

Hopefully you will get tons of answers, in my experience those who love silkies REALLLY love silkies

Any time you get lost in here, just do a search, in the search box on the top of each page for what you are looking for. That will bring up all kinds of info, past and present! big_smile.png
