good articl my uncle sent me about chicken and heat most of the tips have been posted here but still thought I would share

My city farm:

4 Chickens 1 Buff Orpington Cheerio Rose, 2 Exchequer Leg Horn Lilly & Phoenix and 1 Amber star mix Little Bit.

3 rats Summer, Winter and Spring

3 Dogs: Lab Honey bear, Samoyed Duke, Pit mix Candii

3 cats: Snickers, Kit Kat, Zelda

1 desert turtle Harry

And a whole lot of fish in the fish tank

1 Awesome husband, 3 wonderful daughters, 1 teenage son, 1 yorkie, 1 Toy rat terrier, 1 cat, 1 black lab, 1 rooster, 16 hens, 4 keets, 19 chicks, 1 bunny, and 5 beautiful acres of land .. . Thank you God!!!

I haven't read this yet but I'm about to. We are registering at 105 degress now in Cheatham County, Tennessee and my babies are panting so fast and hard even with clean, cool water.....THANK YOU for posting! i hope it has some useful tips!

UPDATE:

 

I did what the article said and hosed the rooftop and any other surface down but it didn't take but a minute or two before the wood surface was dry. I hosed down the entire coop/run and around it and turned on the fan. I decided to hang the hose and let the the hose trickle in front of the fan. After about 10 minutes or so, the babies had stopped panting. My older chickens are in the woods so I know they're OK. They are not contained. Free range on 20 acres. The babies however are 3 weeks old today and remain in a fenced in, shaded, sheltered area. Thank you for the article. I hope I can provide a little comfort for the babies during these extraordinary temperatures.

Mine are too!! Only 97 here but still hot enough to burn my brains out! I watered a corner of the pen down wondering if they might want to lay on the damp ground...but nope! Horses have sure been enjoying their daily hosing down though!

I read somewhere else that even though chickens don't like water on them to lightly spray them too. I tried that once and they all just ran for cover!

I sprayed the babies anyway. They hated it and I was afraid of stressing them more than what they already were but I thought it would cool their skin and feathers enough to reap the benefits of the fan.Putting gallon jugs of water in freezer soon for tomorrow. I'm curious to see if that cools the temp like the article said, by placing the frozen water in from of the fan. I'll put the smaller frozen bottles around the coop as well and see what that does. It's so daggum HOT!

Good info there. I saw the pic of the mister and almost started laughing. Mine would run as far fom it as they could. Occasionally I have to wash the porch off and they won't dare step in the water either. I just turn the hose on and they freak out.

I'm not an expert,"ex" is a has been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure!
