How long?

How long until my chickens start laying eggs? I have had them for a month now and I know they are nowhere close yet. But i was just wondering when about do they start. Oh and I have heard that by putting something like a golf ball in the nest can help....will it or what other things will help?

Hens generally start laying between 16-21 weeks of age.

Eighteen weeks of age being the average.

I would not necessarily advise putting golf balls in the nest if they're not of laying age.

AFTER they start laying, however, you can put the balls in the nests to encourage them to use the nests.

Don't worry.  It won't be long before you'll have more eggs than you can eat!
