Hi, I'm no expert and new to chickens but I have heard of being 'egg bound'. She may have an egg stuck. Is she walking with a waddle and her tail down? That's a sign she is egg bound. Thing to do (or so i've read) is to get some lubricant on your finger and gently and slowly insert your lubricated finger into her vent. You may then feel the egg with the tip of your finger. Do not push the egg as you don't want it to break. Squirt olive oil/castor oil - forgotten which - up into the vent to lubricate the egg. Then give her a warm bath. Keep repeating daily until she passes it. Good luck. :)

If it is getting hot where you are it could possibly be the heat putting her off.

Lots of factors put chickens off, stress, heat, changing something in the garden etc. She's young so it may take a while to steady out. As long as there's no egg stuck then thats fine.

Hi...

She sounds a bit young, but she may be broody.  Check her breast bone, if she's plucked out all the feathers so you see a strip of bare skin then I'd say that's the thing.  I have one that's just over a year and she's in her second bout with broodiness!  I lift her off the nest box and shoo her out of the coop constantly, I even put her into a pen where she has no access to a nest box until dusk.  After 3-4 days she get the idea.  But it takes her another week or so before she starts to lay again.  It's pretty funny but kind of a pain.  I have only 3 hens and want the eggs, not a broody hen!  D.gif

Why I Love My Chickens by CarolynF
I love my chickens because they're pretty, they're funny, they give my family eggs and fertilizer, they eat from my
hand, they eat my leftovers when I don't like what we had for dinner, and my mommy thinks they're fun, too.
My mommy is 93 now so she knows what she's talking about!
