I just ordered 20 Golden Comets and deacon is right they lay great for 2 years then slow down. But they lay jumbo eggs and I keep mine as pets also, I let them free range to help with feed but in the winter mine did not do so good.
What is a comet chicken?

So are the breed names Red Star, Gold Star, and Golden Comet all just a few names for a Red Sex Link chickens?
Yep. Just like Advil and Motrin are both names for ibuprofen. Just a little different "recipe" depending on the hatchery. Either way, you'll get a red hen that will lay tons of nice brown eggs.

My current Golden Comet, who will be 3 this spring, had a really heavy molt last fall, and her feathers came back a much "redder" color than she's ever been. If I look quickly, I sometimes confuse her with my RIR. She used to be a little golden thing, but she's really changed since the molt.
