Is our tractor/ coop big enough

I recently begged my hubby to build a tractor for a backyard flock. It has 3 2ftx2ft "nesting boxes, an enclosed area with door and vents that is 3ftx3ftx3ft with a roost, and the "run area is 3ftx10ft and 4ft high. We currently have 6 barred rocks that are about 10 weeks old and I am wondering if as they grow will I have to extend the coop or run area. I cannot let them free range due to neighbors animals as well as hawks and other predators.

Also if it is big enough approx how many can I have in their and still be comfy and healthy. We are only wanting pullets for the eggs so whichever ones turn out to be roo's will go to the next sale.

General rule of thumb, 4 square feet in coop per bird, 10 square feet in run.  If my math is correct, you'll want twice as much space inside and out for your birds.  Depends on how often you move your tractor.  Barred Rocks are great birds :)

Is that your tractor in your avatar?  Very nice!  Also welcome-byc.gif

Whoever said don't count your chickens before they're hatched clearly never tried to count chickens after they're hatched.

That's enough space for 3 standard sized chickens.

I live with my partner and our daughter in the foothills of NC. We LOVE our critters!

Thank you, that's what I was afraid of. We move it every 3 or 4 days.

Also thanks for the compliment on the tractor. I begged using the grandbabies, and when that didn't work I requested it for mothers days lol
