The Persian speaking people in Pakistan would insist that they are "Persian." Here "Persian" represents the language and not the country. Iran and Persia both represent the same country; Iran is the current name and Persia is the historic name!!
On a similar note, Pakistan was once part of the Persian Empire, so was Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia and a slew of other countries.
I've also heard that Texans would insist that they are Texans and not Americans. So I guess it has to do with patriotism! ^^
