Breed??? Gender??

OK So my daughter brought this home from school about 6 weeks ago we have never raised a chicken before but she really wanted one so I agreed but now I am starting to wonder what breed it is and if it is girl or boy...I told her if it was a boy it was going to have to go to some where else to live as I really do not want to listen to it in the morning...lol Any help would be great since we know nothing about raising chickens..Thanks! :)

could be a black astralorp. chickens need to be kept in pairs a single chicken will be a lonely chicken. looks like its a pullet but comb size would make me think cockerel

maybe a black astrolorup or a mix, how old is it?

 

this is mine at 4 months old, her comb is still smaller than ur chickens, urs body looks like a pullet but the comb says roo

I am thinking it was hatched around May 14th but not sure of exact date...We are wanting to get it a friend but I want to make sure it is a girl first...I do not want a boy.

basically about 2.5 months old...im leaning towards cockerel

My daughter is going to be so disappointed if we can not keep it...and I hate to say it so will I but we just can not have a rooster. Guess I may have to start searching for a couple of girls.

yep, comb size makes me think cockerel but everything else makes me think pullet... What colour are underneath the feat? It looks alot like my black copper marans (It has the right body type and it could just be bad quality like mine is at the momment (I hope copper comes in soon)). The little bit of white around the neck is like my marans. All in all I say pullet. but don't quote me on it
