When a Production Red Hen and a Black Star Sexlink Rooster Fall In Love?

The gentlemen on purchased the roosters from called them "black stars" . They had little white splashes on their heads.

Mom and dad hatched out 8 babies and I'm wondering what tell tale characteristics I should look for ( besides comb size ) to determine sex? Can I also count on the white splash on the head? If they're reddish does that indicate female? Eeeks!

They will not be sexable by color- you will have to wait for secondary sex characteristics, like hackle feathers, saddle feathers, and very red comb early... crowing, eggs... that kind of thing.

Pictures?

Please?

I've got one, but it's blurry. I'll get it up in just a second. They were sitting on our bunny run and I found it humorous.

Not very clear at all. Those boogers are fast. I've 6 of them. I'm assuming the one with the bigger crop is a rooster. Two of them have black legs, but their parents do not. When they were born, 4 had white "stars" on their heads.

These are first "naturally born" chicks. Love it!

We have 13 more large fowl dark cornish and buff orphington cross chicks too.

Well that handsome young man standing profile is a cockeral.

The white spot on the head at hatch simply indicates the barring gene. Your sex link rooster had a fifty fifty chance of passing that gene on, to either sex. So, no sex-linkage, no "cheats" to tell gender. You'll have to wait for combs/eggs/crows.

I have a home bred black sex link rooster, hatched out 4 babies from a variety of hens--not even sure who mommas are. I have one barred chick. I'm waiting to see what colors the others turn out!

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!
