MICHIGAN Chickenstock North - 2012 August or September - Page 3

I live in Brethren.  It is a small town.  So small there is not even a stop light, and only one school that covers three different townships from Pre-K thru high school.  It is between Manistee and Cadillac in North West Michigan.

However, there is a wooded park with a pavilion and playground, and a lake across the street with access just a block away.  Tippy Dam is just a few miles away and provides great fishing.  There are campgrounds and cabins available for rent, and availability at this time of year is wonderful since they primarily cater to hunters.

If anyone is interested in coming to Brethren, let me know.  There is no problem in getting to use the park here.  The Grayling location was chosen as a first choice because it is central in the state, much like Lansing is on the southern part of the state.  I, for one, would like to get together with other members on this site, no matter how many.  Sometimes smaller groups are nice.  You get to talk to everyone.  There are plenty of us in the northern part of the state who simply find the distance to go to Lansing impossible.  Some people from the south may still want to come.  Everyone is welcome.  Make a weekend of it!

If we want to get together, LET'S GET TOGETHER!!!  People went to Raz's house and had a great time.  It didn't take a lot of planning or scheduling.  It was simply said, "Let's meet," and it happened.  We can do the same up here.

These are a few pics of the park I mentioned.  You can see the pavilion and the playground.  There is also a basketball court and a baseball field.Photo06291346.jpgPhoto06291347.jpgPhoto06291347_1.jpgPhoto06291348.jpg

Looks like a nice park like the one in Harrison which is out of the way on a not so traveled street. We have the state park and two other campgrounds, if anyone wants to stay. Harrison is nice because the town is two miles coming from either direction off the freeway. The saying here is 20 lakes in 20 minutes, ummmmm I wonder if that's true? I just thought I would mention Harrison if it would be more central. Don't matter to me either. The park has pavilion, bathrooms, tennis courts etc.....was going to have my daughters wedding there but it didn't work out because some of the family like to get a little silly with the drinking and they thought it would be oh so much more fun at my house. I live by Lake George 1/2 mile back in the woods so you can guess what sort of reception we had, pig roast, more food and drink then we needed that's for sure. It cost $25 to rent it back in 2003 I can check if everyone wants to have it there. Yes it can get cold in October here but it's sooooooo pretty in the fall, my favorite time of year. Oh and by the way the bears don't bite to hard up here, hehehehe.

Harrison sounds like a nice option as well.  Looks about only 1.5 hours north of Lansing though.  Does anyone have another option further north?  If we are looking at a northern meeting, maybe something further north?

Hillbilly Hen, M Sue, Raz - What dates/months work best for you folks?

I'd prefer late Sept, early to mid Oct. but don't schedule to my liking. Schedule it by availability.  Sept is busy with back school stuff/routines & we usually do a last minute fall horse show before the cold sets in. If that weekend is free I'll be there!

Anytime for me. The only thing I would have to work around timewise would be hunting season. I don't have any back to schoolers.

I don't hunt....DH & DS does but that won't make a difference. DD and I would just come, maybe bring a friend.
