help amend chicken ordinances in enid, oklahoma

Did you see this article on petitions?

http://enidnews.com/localnews/x546171566/Petition-on-livestock-ordinance-declared-invalid-by-Enid-officials

The first petition to remove a more strict ordinance was not allowed because it wasn't filed prior to being circulated. If you search the Enid News website with 'livestock ordinance' you will get a long, long list of many of the articles pertaining to this battle.

Not trying to discourage you, but letting you know what you are in for. For a farm area, it isn't very livestock/ag friendly.

I'm from just up the road in Alva. I am completely amazed that these farming communities ban backyard chickens. Come on folks, what's up with this? Our grand fathers and mothers often lived on the healthy eggs produced in the backyard coop. They formed great relationships with their neighbors and often provided eggs for the people around them. Clean coops, healthy chickens and nutritious eggs are not difficult to manage at all.

This is the same 'area' that had a riding arena at the park. It had been there for many, many years and was free for groups to use for different events. It had some pretty big events there and was surrounded by nice big trees which provided lots of shade to ride/park under.

Then they decided they needed to expand the jogging trail. Right through the grassed parking area where all the participants parked their trailers or rode the horses. Next they complained the horses were being ridden on the jogging trail (The joggers didn't like the um, er, 'remnants' that were sometimes left on the trail). Go figure... Later, they took out the nice little fence and hedge that separated the arena/parking area from the busy road and even some of the trees.

The arena wasn't taken care of well and was eventually removed. No more horse events there. Course there is always the fairgrounds if you want to pay an arm and a leg. It doesn't have any shade either.

Of course the county fair is a whole discussion in itself...and not a good one.

What's even more sad...they knew exactly what they were doing. They had been trying to get rid of the arena for years.

Too bad, at one time it was a very nice little arena.

I know it's been, like, 7 years.... But I'm curious if any of this was successful. I'll be moving to Enid in a while and I desperately miss raising my chickens!

Thanks!
