turkeys

thinking of getting some turkey . but i heard they can be mean and are they are hard to keep ?

I like them mean, they are good watch turkeys.... lau.gif nooo just kidding, any animal could be mean, some

dogs & cats are mean, if you have a mean turkey, that is the 1st one to go into the pot once they're ready.

My turkeys let me pick them up, and follow us around the yard always inquisitive.  They even follow my dogs & cats.  So yes some could be mean, but they should not be !!!

It depends I raise the wild type and none of mine are mean except when they go broody.
 

I have Bantam welsummers, Bantam Cuckoo Marans, Bantam Wc black polish, Bantam Olive eggers, MGB, LF Welsummers, BCM, Wild type turkeys RioxEastern, Ringneck pheasants blacks and 1 blue roo and bunch of free range birds

I have yet to meet a mean turkey. But like others above me have already stated they can be mean just like any other animal.

 

Ours are very sweet and love people. They are much more friendly than our chickens. =3 They are also very easy to get attached to in my opinion.

x2 or x3 whatever it is. Our turkeys are our favorite birds because they are so friendly and personable. We have white hollands and they are so inquisitive. They do peck sometimes. They all love my gold wedding band and peck at it if I'm not watching and they love my daughters fingers, especially when she has fingernail polish on. Go for it!!

Barred rocks, red sex link, silver wyandotte, white leghorns, mottled cochin banty, silkie, blue swedish and khaki campbell ducks, meat rabbits, white holland turkeys, turtles, cats, and as much garden space as one can cram into a small urban yard half given over to the chickens

Any male bird can be mean. Or not. I have had one aggressive tom, but only one. All the rest kept their distance and have never been a problem.

I do not find turkeys to be hard to keep, but they are a little different than chickens. Notably in their feed requirements and the first few days of brooding poults. Read around here in the turkey forum and you'll find no end of info about pretty much anything turkey related.

I don't have enough turkey experience to know if this applies to turkeys, but inevitably, if waterfowl turn mean, it is incorrect raising and lack of training.

Not to hijack, but, I just logged on to see if I should try to talk DH into getting a turkey or two.  Is it ok to house them with chickens (if the turkeys are raised with a group of chicks)?  If we do go the turkey route, I'd like to hatch them with my next batch of chicks.
