2 of them died!

I came home to hear some newly hatch chicks chirping.  Turns out 2 of them passed away because the mama one was laying on top of them.  I moved her to a bigger box.  It was her first try.  Sad to come home to see the two of them like that.

Awww so sad, its never fun to come home to that. Is the momma depressed?

I think she is depressed.  She is just making these different sounds and not eating.

Does she have any left? Or was there only two?

Sorry to hear that.

My broody just ate a chick because it was pipping. She was in the process of eating chick #2 and hatched it before it was ready. By the grace of God, that chick is still alive and doing well! It's a little tough barred rock baby. I think it's a boy. The comb thickened noticeablely today since it hatched.

There was another pipping chick that I brought in and hatched in my fish tank homemade incubator. I have 3 more eggs. I have the temp at 99.8 and humidity at 60%-70% by placing wet rags underneath. I'm using a moist heating pad, so I don't start a fire. I put a second heat pad underneath the tank.

Here's chick #2- a EE/barred rock mix. Yea, with the puffy cheeks and pea comb. I'm certain this one is female with the dark wash legs!

I hope the rest make it. I was so sick to my stomach my Cochin ate my EE/barred rock full developed chick.
