Old Blue Rooster - What Breed?

Old blue

Lady sold me this bird along with a bunch of purebreds from other lines. Said he had no hens to mate and let him go. I like his nature and good looks enough to find some hens of his feather. What is he? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hmmmm...slate legs...could he perhaps be an easter egger? They're often sold as ameraucanas but don't hold to type, so even though he has an erect single comb I have to wonder. They do often have those red patches on the shoulders.

he would be a 3rd or higher gen ee since he doesn't have a beard

Does he remind anyone else of a blue favorellle? Minus the beard, and wrong leg color, but that's what I think of when I look at him. I'd love for the OP to contact the seller and see what he's supposed to be.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

I think Hdowden's guess is most likely.  The photo is kind of blurry, and if he is a mix-color Marans, those could be blue feathers fooling the eye to think his legs are slate in color.

He's all wrong even for EE.  To deviate that far from a pea comb and muff, you'd have to do so much mixing that coloration would be much wilder.

I think we just have a project Marans, or a careless Marans breeder who either didn't know or didn't care what they were doing.

What about a Dorking? Something about him reminds me of one I saw a few months ago... A little closer pic would tell more....
