Time without Mama

My Silkie has been setting on three eggs for about two weeks. Today she wandered out and somehow fell into our duck pool and nearly drown! I was sure she was going to die. Her crop was the size of a very large lemon and she was gasping for breath. I sat with her for hours while she slowly recovered. Meanwhile her eggs were completely unattended for about 5 hours. I finally decided to take her back to the coop where she got a bit to eat, made herself known to the others then walked up the ramp and sat right back down on her eggs. It was about 90 degrees and humid here today. Is there any chance they will survive?

I wouldn't worry about it a bit. They will be fine, especially as hot as it is out. Only thing it may do is delay hatch by 1/2 a day.

Oh good. I feel so much better. One because the momma survived but two because this is her first clutch. If they do hatch they will be very interesting because dad is a buff orpington! (don't ask) wink.png

Sorry but we are camping right now and it takes a really long time to sent photos. The third chick is on the trip with us because she/he had a hard time hatching and by the time I got her/him back to mama she wouldn't have anything to do with "it". To top things off we also have one of our hens with us as she broke her leg around the same time! I have the most amazingly understanding family. hugs.gif
