I have another one and one more peeking out! It looks like it just came out of the shell, still wet. wee.gif

I'm married to a wonderful, caring, loving man. 1 son, daughter by choice and  3 wonderful, beautiful grand babies.

2 dogs, total of 23 chickens and counting!

On character: A good way to judge people is by observing how they treat those who can do them absolutely no good.

That's the one that just came out. Or, I should say, awhile ago.  It was like that yesterday and it took 24 hrs for him/her to hatch! I didn't realize that it took so long! I was wondering what to proper term was (pip). Just got back from getting the babies their own food.

Gotta go check on them and take pictures!

Total so far six, but one got attracted. :( I don't know who did this, but when I went to put fresh water and feed it was laying on the ground with both sides of it head picked and no lower beak. somad.gif

I brought it inside and there is no hope of her/him no eyes. I'm so upset right now. There was another hen it the nest when I went out there and I assume that she is the one that did it. The reason being is, it was the one that was almost out when I left to get food for the little ones. hit.gif

Now, I have it kinda of blocked so no other hen can get into that nest. The chick that is getting ready to hatch can still leave the nest without being bothered.

I hate to ask this but, what it the best way to cull the chick that is hurt?

i have no experience culling chicks, but if i had to i would use the baking soda and vinegar method... i'm kind of a squeamish person and could never cut off its head or anything like that... i feel that this is the most humane way to go.. but thats just my opinion

Good luck with the rest of your chicks!!
