so i had my dad save me another batch of eggs (he has the working rooster)

my first batch i set 2 week old eggs

learning the dynamics of my incubator i overheated them to 103 the first day

adjusted to 99 (high end)

it was cooling down to 94-95 on the low end

result 40% hatch

from day one i was only confident of 6 5 hatched and 2 non hatchers were pretty advanced so died late or i gave up to early

so i decided to adjust my controls:

use day old eggs

adjust incubator with non fertile eggs up 1 degree to top end 100

dont overheat this batch

i got 17 brown eggs and my daughter said papa gave her one extra egg (there was a white egg)

i broke one setting it

one egg had a shell piece like a mole on it -- i rubbed it off accidentally exposing outer membrane

i figured what the heck i coated it in nail polish to protect the membrane from the outside

so i candled them last night after a week:

white egg = infertile

all others good

i think my adjustments paid off and even the nail polish coated egg is developing

the funny thing is i think its odd there was a white egg in the batch and odder that it was the only infertile egg.  I wonder if my dad set it up to test my candling.
