What Temperature zone are you in?

For Zones 6 - 9...Could suggest a Vitex or Crepe Myrtle.  Both can be trimmed up from the bottom like a tree and offer shade , foilage and flowers for color.    Pampas grass or Maiden grass would not be tasty for the birds but would offer texture and color.

LF: Col W., Cochins. Projects: Blue CW, Birchen W.  B: OEGB, Rosecomb, d'Anvers.

"Speak kind words; hear kind echos."  "When you get to your wit's end, you'll find God lives there."
